Apple Menu
About Quick Gallery…
This brings back the startup logo as a copyright notice.
Register Quick Gallery ...
This item only shows on an unregistered copy of this software. After proper registration, it is not in the Apple menu any more. Select this item if you decide to register this software after obtaining your registration number from me.
File Menu
New Gallery
This opens a new blank Gallery window. Up to 50 windows can be open simultaneously, depending on Quick Gallery's memory allocation without worrying of memory segmentation. One can open even more windows if the application memory allows, but beyond 50 windows, openning and closing windows will cause memory segmentation in application heap.
Open Gallery…
Use this command to pick the Quick Gallery catalog you wish to open.
Open in Viewer…
Use this command to open the supported file format in viewer mode.
Close
This closes the active window. You will be prompted to save any changes you may have made.
Save
This saves any changes you have made to the catalog in the active window. Quick Gallery displays a standard Save As dialog if the document has not yet been saved to disk.
Save As…
This brings up the standard dialog for creation of a new catalog file on your disk.
Import ...
The Import Quick Preview catalog menu item allows you to open a catalog saved by Quick Preview.
Export ...
There are 4 items under the Export... menu. Three of these corresponds to a graphic format. They export any front most window to a Graphic file. This is most useful to web graphics creation. The export Quick Preview catalog menu item allows you to save the current window content as a catalog to be opened by Quick Preview.
Page Setup
This displays the standard Page Setup dialog allowing you to set specific options for your printer. The front most window will be repagenated according to the printer description.
Print…
This displays the standard Print dialog for the printer you have selected in the Chooser.
Preferences…
The Preferences dialog allows you to preset many of these features and store your preferred settings in a “Preferences” file in the Preferences folder. The preference dialog contains many sections with related setting group together.
The image pref controls the options in image related options. Check "use Quicktime" if you want to use Quicktime in JPEG compression/decompression. Leave it unchecked if you want to use Independent JPEG group's codes. If quicktime is not installed, the JPEG compression will be through Independent Group's JPEG codes. The JPEG comrpession quality field gives you control over the JPEG file compression ratio and quality. For normal image output, 75-85 should be enough. Above 90, there is no visual improvement while the file size goes huge. Check "Use external picture viewer" if you want to launch the default application when double clicking on thumbnails. Check "view picture using codec" if you have Quicktime. This greatly reduce the memory usage and is capable to display very large pictures. Check "auto detect image format" to auto correct the file type problem. Leave it checked for most of the usage. Check the "Open viewer on Drag and drop" if you would like to view the picture directly without catalogging it. Check "use Temperary memory" to use system memory in the display engine. I recommend you not to use it if there are not much free system memory.
The Layout Pref controls some parameters of catalog layout. The window size popup menu allows you to set the default window size as small, medium, large, printer setup size or custom size. Check "remember size and position" to recover the window position and size next time it is opened. Check "present open dialog at startup" to bring up a dialog to open an existing catalog when Quick Gallery is launched. The thumbnail width/height control the size of the created thumbnail. Note, it is only effective on newly created catalog. Once the catalog is saved, these parameters will have no function. Check the "show.." to show the selected info under the thumbnail.
The Printing Pref controls the printing effect. Margins adds some space inward from the edge. If you want date and time stamp at the right header, check the "Print date and time stamp". If you want to print a page number at the footer, check the "Print pages numbers". If you want to print the document title at the left header, check the "Print document title". The line spacing is the separation between the line.
The Styles Pref controls the default font and size in the thumbnail info display.
Quit
This closes the Quick Gallery application. You will be prompted to save any altered or unsaved documents before Quick Gallery quits.
Edit Menu
Undo
This reverses your most recent editing action. After you undo something, it can usually be redone if desired.
Cut
This removes the current selection to the clipboard, making it available for pasting into other locations or other documents.
Copy
This makes a copy of the current thumbnail selection and places it in the clipboard.
Paste
This moves a copy of the thumbnail in the clipboard to the current insertion point, deleting anything that may be selected.
Clear
This clears the current selection.
Select All
This selects the entire document.
Copy Content ...
For the supported multimedia file format, this will put the actually data (PICT, MooV, 3DMF, snd) into scapboard. To be implemented.
Search Menu
This menu handles the database search, and thumbnail sorting function.
Find
If the current window is already saved as database file, this command will bring up a database search dialog. You can search the database by file name, volume name, file type, and keyword. The search result will replace the current window content.
Find and Add
If the current window is already saved as database file, this command will bring up a database search dialog. You can search the database by file name, volume name, file type, and keyword. The search result will add to the current window content.
Find All
If the current window is already saved as database file, this command will search for all entry in the current database. The search result will replace the current window content.
Sort by File Name
Sort the current window current by file name.
Sort by Volume Name
Sort the current window current by volume name.
Sort by File Type
Sort the current window current by file type.
Sort by File Creator
Sort the current window current by file creator.
Item Menu
This is menu handle the selected thumbnail for some common operation.
Get Info...
For a selected thumbnail, this brings up a Info dialog. You can input keyword/descriptions in this dialog. The keyword inputed can be used in database search.
Preview Files...
If the file associated with the thumbnail can be viewed in internal viewer, open it in picture/movie/model window.
Edit Files...
Launch the default application to edit the file associated with the thumbnail.
Open Files with...
Bring up a dialog to promp you for an application to open the current selected thumbnail. To be implemented.
Copy Original Files
Duplicate the orginal files to a selected folder.
Move Original Files
Move the orginal files to a selected folder and update the thumbnail associated with it.
Trash Original Files
Delete the orginal files and the associated thumbnails.
Rename Original Files
Rename the original files and update the associated thumbnails.
Delete Database Item
Delete the database entry for the selected thumbnails, without touching the orginal files.
Update Database Item
Update the database entry for currently selected thumbnails, without touching the orginal files. Resolved any broken links.
Windows Menu
All open documents are readily available using the Windows menu. Choose the document you wish to activate (bring to the front). The currently active window is checked.
Switch Window
Having trouble juggling several documents at once? Use this command repeatedly to “cycle” through all open documents.
Full Screen Window
This command make the current active window full screen.
Stack Window
Use this command to stack all open documents. The window size is small.
Tile Window
Use this command to tile up all open documents.
Vertical Tile Window
Use this command to tile up all open documents with document window height always full screen height.
Requirements
Required: 68000 Macintosh, with system 7.0 and 5MB RAM.
Prefered: 68020 Mac or above, with system 7.5 and 8 MB RAM.
To use the Drag & Drop function, you will need to use System 7.5 or place the Macintosh Drag and Drop extension in the Extensions folder.
Limitations
WASTE text engine in the heart of Quick Gallery is made to handle files of unlimited size, although noticeable slowdowns will happen when file is very large.
The UserLand ODB search engine is used in Quick Gallery. For saved database, the thumbnails are stored in resource fork. Therefore, the database entry is limited only by the your hard disk. The maximum database entry number is 65535. For most of the case, this will not be a problem.
Registration
Quick Gallery is shareware (US $30). The registration is handled by Kagi software. You should use the accompanied Register program for registration purpose in whatever payment methods you choose. Contact me for details if you would rather pay me directly by check or cash.
Please include your e-mail address if possible, so that I can inform you of your registration number. After payment is received by Kagi software, I will send you a registration number (through e-mail if possible) which you will need to register or enable the application after 30 days trial period. To register, choose the "register the Quick Gallery ..." item under the Apple menu, fill your name, organization and registration number in the dialog. This will finish the registration. After the 30 days trial period, the cataloger saving functions will be disabled and always prompt you for the registration number to re-enable it at launching.
